Tenant Rights and Responsibilities in Housing York Inc

Here are the liberty and duties that are offered and monitored by Housing York Inc. For tenants in Canada, it is important to be aware of the same. Have a look:

Lease Norm

It is crucial to thoroughly review your lease agreement, which outlines the privileges and obligations you have as a tenant. The lease serves as a safeguard for both you, the tenant, and Housing York, the landlord. Should you have any inquiries regarding the terms of your lease, we encourage you to reach out to your Property Manager for clarification and guidance.

Visitors Norm

Kindly remember that you bear the responsibility for the conduct of your visitors. When you have guests, it is essential to demonstrate respect for the regulations, rules, and fellow residents within your housing community. By adhering to these guidelines, you contribute to maintaining a harmonious living environment for everyone involved.

Smoking

As a tenant of Housing York, it is important to be aware of the smoke-free policy that was agreed upon when you signed your lease. This policy prohibits smoking indoors, in the yard, and on the balcony, not only for you but also for your guests. Additionally, smoking is strictly prohibited in any indoor common areas, such as hallways, stairwells, lounges, and elevators. When smoking in outdoor common areas, it is required to maintain a distance of at least five meters from windows, doors, and vents.

While a majority of Housing York households are already nonsmoking and there is strong support for smoke-free buildings, it will take some time before all buildings become completely smoke-free. This is because older leases signed before the implementation of the smoke-free policy in 2014 did not include a no-smoking clause. Therefore, some households, including balconies and yards, will still allow smoking until new leaseholders move in.

Complaints & Feedback

Check out the steps to file any complaint or provide feedback by reaching out to the Housing York Inc personnel:

Step 1: Direct Communication with Initial Contact Point

In order to expedite the resolution of complaints, it is recommended to first approach the person or department from where the service request originated. For instance, if there was a delay in the arrival of a repair person or superintendent, it is advisable to approach the superintendent directly for a swift resolution. Similarly, if you have a complaint related to a document received from the office, it is best to contact the staff member who initially sent it to you.

Step 2: Reach out to your Property Manager

If your complaint cannot be resolved through the initial contact, the next step is to get in touch with your Property Manager. The Property Manager possesses comprehensive knowledge about your building, the residents, and the community. They prioritize the effective management of the property and tenant services. If you have any concerns or complaints, do not hesitate to inform your Property Manager.

Step 3: Escalate to the Manager of Operations

If your complaint remains unresolved even after contacting the Property Manager, you have the option to escalate the matter to the Manager of Operations. They have the authority to address and handle escalated complaints. In the event that your complaint still remains unresolved, please reach out to the Director.
