In 1803, Lt. Colonel Robert Campbell and his brother, Major David Campbell decided to settle down on the edges of the Trent River. However, the purpose of settling down along the river edges was to develop the canal system for the locality. Further, the invention of the canal system led to the hydroelectric power system. By 1876, the nearby areas got developed along with Campbellford. In addition, in 1906 this town was recognised as an incorporated neighbourhood. Furthermore, on July 26th, 1918 the first boat travelled from Campbellford to Orillia and by 1920 the water channel became fully passable. However, today water channels are being used by various crafts. Moreover, you can reside overnight on the boat to experience the cruising lifestyle. Furthermore, Campbellford is also called ‘House of The Two Dollar Coin’. Where an ancient statue of a toonie is located in the middle of downtown.
