Bramalea North Industrial Neighbourhood Overview

A sizable suburban area in the Canadian city of Brampton, Ontario, is known as Bramalea. Bramalea was constructed as a distinct neighbourhood from the metropolis as a creative "new town." It was created by Bramalea Consolidated Developments (later Bramalea Limited), formerly known as Brampton Leasing, one of Canada's largest real estate developers, and was situated in the former Chinguacousy Township. The farmer William Sheard combined the old British term "Lea," which means meadow or grassland, with the letters "BRAM" from Brampton and "MAL” from Malton, and the result was the name "Bramalea." On the corner of Bramalea Road and Avondale Boulevard, he constructed one of the first homes in Bramalea after selling the site to Brampton Leasing developers. The new business venture bought a sizable tract of cow grazing property that belonged to Mr. Sheard.
